‘The Swan series stemmed from a fascination with the duality of nature — its inherent grace and chaotic unpredictability. Swans are often symbols of beauty and elegance, yet there is a fierce strength to them as well. This piece seeks to capture that dichotomy through the fluid yet erratic strokes that form the swan’s wings and body.

My choice of acrylic on linen as the medium was deliberate; the immediacy of acrylic paint allows for the dynamic, sweeping gestures that bring this swan to life, while the texture of linen adds a raw, organic feel to the piece. The subject matter — a swan caught in a moment of transformation — aligns with the style, which straddles the line between the abstract and the figurative. The monochromatic scheme strips away the distraction of colour, focusing the viewer on the interplay of light, shadow, and form, and inviting them to delve deeper into the emotion and energy conveyed by the swan’s form.’ ~ Tommy
