Adam bumped into Bessy as he turned into her street at 6am. She was feeding her chickens after a night out in the local club.
This photograph challenges perceptions. Some might see Bessie as a drunk or a nuisance, but here, the camera reveals her essence—warmth, strength, and charisma. It’s a reminder of the indescribable “it” factor that some people possess, the quality that makes them shine in front of a lens. It’s a mystery I’ve pondered for years as a cinematographer and photographer. Why do some people captivate while others don’t? Is it charisma, their soul, or something intangible? I can’t explain it, but I can feel it the moment I meet someone like Bessie. She has it, and I’m grateful I was there to capture it.
