After leaving school, Michael worked as a forklift driver for ten years. During that time, he worked in the evenings as a freelance greeting card artist, developing techniques and ideas, working with all the major Greeting card publishers Success in this area meant that he was finally able to follow his dreams and become a full-time artist in 1990. Since then, Michael has worked and exhibited in major cities including New York, expanding and experimenting with different styles of art. Away from the restraint of his card illustration career, he began to venture into art he could never have dreamed of making. Creating bold and energetic large-scale paintings, leading us into a world of fantasy, escapism, innocence and wonder. He brings forth the freedom of childlike expression, that of which is lost in multiple ways when we grow up. His work has overriding themes of escapism and play, with an exaggerated sense of humour.
