Lorraine Benton

Lorraine began her professional career as a pharmacist, working in the field for several years before enrolling in a part-time sculpture course at the University of Hertfordshire. After seven years of study, she was invited to pursue a Fine Art degree, much of which she completed through independent, self-directed learning. Her early work, rooted in figurative and realistic painting, gradually evolved into a more expressive and abstract style as her confidence and artistic voice developed. Deeply inspired by landscapes, Lorraine incorporates influences from her scientific and musical background, including references to chemical structures, biological forms, musical notation, and instruments. Her paintings often explore illusion, form, and perspective, reflecting her extensive experience with traditional techniques. Over time, her work has become increasingly abstract, encouraging open interpretation and personal connection from the viewer.
