Jo Quigley

Jo Quigley is an artist with an MA in Fine Art, who studied at Winchester School, then Kingston University. Since she taught art for over 10 years but now has directed her time to dedicate to her own artistry, specifically painting and writing. Living near to London, is a source of inspiration for her, she is in awe of the shadows and moment of the cityscape. The figures of the people found in her painting are based off real passers-by, she likes to paint people nonchalantly, going about their daily lives. Encouraging free interpretation for the viewer to look deeper at the characters presented in her art. Her preferred places to paint are crowded areas, where she can pause and direct her attention to individual mannerisms of her subjects. As a result, her paintings give us a contrast of intimacy and intensity. Jo works with a wide range of materials, but mainly with acrylic as she has found that it’s the best medium, for creating crisp colours and shadowing, to reflecting the sharpness of the city, and its pace. Jo has exhibited all around the UK and has won several prizes and awards.
