Chloe McCarrick

Chloe McCarrick is a up-and-coming star in the art world, she was even nominated as a Rising Star by Saatchi Art and The Other Art Fair. She has now exhibited worldwide, selling out of all of her work! Chloe is known for her circular cyanotypes, she is pushing the boundaries of photographic manipulation. Cyanotypes are one of the oldest forms of photography, the process is a complex one and involves the use of chemicals and light. A piece of photographic paper is covered in two different chemicals, then either a photo negative, or an object will be placed on the paper and exposed in the sun or under a lamp, after a certain amount of time the paper will be washed and what is left on the paper is a cyan-blue copy of the negative or the object. Chloe will do this process and then add collage and mixed media techniques to it, sometimes creating a 3D effect in her work. This process requires patience, skill, and a good knowledge of photography. What makes Chloe’s work so special are the stories behind them, her works are based on feminist figures of the past, she constructs visual narratives from the lives of these extraordinary women. Some of the women featured in her artwork include Amelia Earhart, Hypatia, Marie Curie. Chloe’s hope is that people feel inspired by the story behind each piece, and the subject makes people curious to delve deeper. We are delighted to have Chloe’s work at IIF Gallery.
